It’s….So. So sad. *Loudly blows nose in a Kleenex*

It’s a dark feeling.

Your heart aches.

Matter of fact, your entire being hurts with the feeling that you’ll never get over this. There’s nothing on this Earth that could take you out of this funk.

No one understands. Not your family. Not your friends. Not even your dog.

*Crawls to a nearby corner, rocks, then proceeds to ugly cry*

I don’t know about you guys but whenever I finish a series I always, always an hit with a bad case of the book blues. So now my bookish friends, I now present you with:

THE 13 STAGES OF THE BOOK BLUES: (in my creepy announcer voice)

-Numero Uno: STUNNED

You turn to the last page. Still shocked and not fully registering that the book is over. You stare aimlessly around for a moment slightly becoming aware of surrondings.

200

-Numero Dos: REFLECTION.

You take a moment to reflect on what you just read and you let everything sink in, still not fully reconginzing/accepting this book world has come to a sad, depressing end.

-Numero Tres: SEPARATION ANXIETY.

200

Aching feeling starting to creep its nasty self all up in your heart. You start eying the book ready to pick it back up to read again.

But… you already finished.

-Numero Cuatro: ACCEPTANCE.

Reality finally sets in that you’re done. The book and it series is done.

-Numero Cinco: DESPAIR

NO OTHER SERIES IS GOING TO EQUAL THE GREATNESS OF THIS BOOK! THIS BOOK WAS PURE BLISS, RAINBOWS,  AND PERFECTION!!!

-Numero Seis: ENGOURGE YOURSELF WITH WHATEVER FOOD WITHIN DISTANCE.

Maybe, oh just maybe, food is the only thing in this world that will take away the raw, aching pain residing in your chest.

200

-Numero Siete: DENIAL

You start eying the book again. Maybe even consider reading it again. Maybe I should reread it! Yes! That what I’ll do!…..

But you know it won’t be the as because it won’t be like the first go ’round.

-Numero Ocho: CORNER ROCKING, WORLD CRASHING WAVES OF SADNESS HIT

200

It finally hits you like a MOFO for a yet second time. (Oh, my aching heart can only take so much abuse.)

Numero Nueve: LET THE SEARCH BEGIN, YO.

You then proceed to power up your computer and/or cellphone to search on Goodreads for another series.

Numero Diez: YES! YES! I HAVE FOUND A BOOK OF PERFECTION JUST LIKE LAST SERIES! SQUUEE!

*Bounces up and downs* and *Moonwalks across floor and possibly twerks*

Numero Once: ALL IS RIGHT WITH YOUR UNIVERSE AGAIN.

200

Read to your hearts content just super happy. All smiles and baby rainbows your way.

Numero Doce: FLIP TO THE LAST PAGE OF THE BOOK.

Numero Trece: REPEAT DEPRESSION CYCLE FROM NUMERO ONCE.

                                                         Antidote?

Oh, maybe I around just take a Benadryl and knock myself out during the day. Then a nice, steaming cup of Sleepytime tea at night so I can stay lost to the world during the night. At least being knocked out, I won’t have to deal with the loss of my book friends.

                                                 *Ugly cries. This time forever.*

                                                        Over to you :

Do you suffer book depression? Are any of these YOUR symptoms? BTW What are (italics)your symptoms? Or are you just coolest thing since kool aid and keep it stepping to the next book? ALSO, did you learn any Spanish in the process? Your welcome my bookish friends.

Looks like I’m the coolest thing since Kool Aid, lol ! No book funk yet 😉 And I have some Spanish left from school !

  2. Ah yes it totally happens. Well I don’t re read but I’m so sad it’s the end, realizing that it’s really the end, it’s the worst lol. We keep wondering if there is a possibility for one more but no…

  3. Haha, nicely described! When a series I really love ends, I become a mega bitch, not gonna lie. I’m like leave meeee alone! But then I usually find something else or stop reading for awhile. lol. Nope, didnt learn any spanish xD

    • I put the numbers to each “stage” in Spanish, like “numero uno” etc. Hehe I thought it would help you out but *hangs head* but I guess it didn’t work. tee hee And yes. I’m usually so depressed I just want to sit in my room and cry my eyes out. (Not really but.. almost.)

  4. I don’t really suffer from book depression, although I do have a book hangover now and then. With series endings I am usually left with a happy and satisfied feeling if the ending was well done. Although it’s sad the series has ended, especially when it was one of your favourite series, but hpefully the author will writ emroe awesome books. And sometimes it’s better to have an ending than when a series get’s dragged on too long.

    • I completely agree Lola! 🙂 Sometimes if a series is pulled on for too long it gets draggy and then you can’t enjoy the series as much. Sometimes it’s just so hard to let go of a good series with awesome characters. Wish I could be strong like you but…. sigh.

  5. I get book hangovers…not so much depression. That’s taking it to the extreme. Lol. But hey, as soon as start thinking about jumping off the bridge, I remind myself that THAT book hasn’t left you. I can go revisit, re-read, bawl myeyes out again, go into fit of rage…you know, do things that I did whilst in the midst of it all, and I know that I’ll be all right. So yeah. Snap out of it, girl!

    • I will try. Oohhh. I will try. It’s just that when a character or story is with you for so long you just….. wahhh. But I will definitely reread. You can bet that! 🙂

  6. I have book hangovers, but not full blown depression. Okay, so maybe I have sulked and complained about my favorite series ending. The bright side? I know that I will find another one to keep me going. No one likes to end a book series, but that’s the wonderful thing about books – there will be another one to fill the void. When I am sad about series enders, I go to Marble Slab Creamery and indulge on mint chocolate chip ice cream. Yummy goodness.

    • Omg Lekeissshhhaaaaa. Now I want ice cream!! Like noooowwwww. Ugh
That sounded so good you have no idea. Plus it’s hot here so that would have been PERFECT! And I guess I’m just being slightly dramatic ? Hehe (just slightly) tee hee

      • No, not dramatic. Everyone has different reactions and experiences with books. Just….Don’t let your family have you committed! LOL People fear what they don’t understand.

  7. I have felt this way countless times at the end of a book! Especially when the Gone series by Michael Grant ended after all those years of waiting for the next books, or when the City of Bones series ended DD: You perfectly described how I felt/feel!

    • GOSH. 🙁 *UGLY CRIES* Ikr?? It’s so painful when your beloved characters and world have come to an end. BUT the good part is, we can always start again. 🙂
