Prequel novella to the bestselling Lux series

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life-form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence…and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

In one word, Shadows is: Forbidden.

Although Shadows was a quick read, it wa fast-paced and super interesting! And well, it’s the only book I’ve read about actual aliens… (AKA Luxen in the book)

When you learned they were aliens, who else pictured them to look like this?

I know I can’t be the only one. In fact, you may have even pictured them having one of these:

This book is all about true love is a beautiful, passionate thing but it can also be… dangerous, not only for you but for your entire family as well.

For those of you that haven’t yet read Obsidian, the first novel i the series, I recommend you go and get it now! And if you can read it before you read Shadows. (Or you can do like me and read the entire series first and then start on this one) I think you’ll have a much deeper appreciation for Dawson and Bethany’s story as well as the motive behind Daemons deep dislike for the humans, and ultimately Katy.

Believe me!

I am such a fan girl for this entire series it’s not even funny! There are so many swoon moments in this book that will leave you begging for more.

Usually I’m not big on reading prequels because I don’t want it to affect my reading experenice but I found that with this book that wasn’t the case.

Like at all.

Dawson is a part of the Luxen community (aliens living hidden right under the noses of the humans.) One day in class he and Beth meet and… cue the love fest.

For a human, being involved with a Luxen can mean danger if the human discovers what they are. Danger from the D.O.D. (Department of Defense) If humans discover the secret of them being aliens, get this…. they disappear.

Due to the danger posed by falling in love with a human, of course Dawson’s family wants him to stay away from Beth. And I’m pretty sure we’ve all been to that point when someone tells us we can’t have something. Which makes us do what?

Obviously it’s going to make us want said thing EVEN MORE.

Am I correcto? Or am I correcto?

So with the danger posed by the D.O.D along with the Arum Dawson and Beth have to fight to be together. But while Beth and Dawson are together one day, something happens which puts Beth in mortal danger. Can they still keep their love a secret?

And in the end, will their love be their ultimate demise?

My Thoughts:

The love between Dawson and Beth could be what my mom loves to call “puppy love” but with these two I was actually convinced that they were made for each other.

But she was just standing there, not moving. Neither of them was. This… this was intense. more so than the first time she kissed a boy. The kicker was they rent even touching. She didn’t even know him yet.

Just a small swoon moment I had there. 😉

And I am absolutely in love with the way author Jennifer L. Armentrout writes. In every one of her books I have read, they have been chalked full of romance, kissing scenes, snarky banter, and even more kissing scenes that’ll make you swoon long after you read!

It’s another case of “Love at first sight” but it was played out so well you don’t think about it.

In four words, I would describe Dawson as:

I loved the romance and connection immediate that Dawson and Beth have.

so cute

I thought it was really interesting that the Luxen are born in sets of triplets whereas the Arum (their enemy) come in fours. I thought this was really unique for the author to twist up and it gave the story a sense of uniqueness.

Kindly exit to stage left my peeps. Don’t want to give the ending or other juicy parts away. 😉

Okay. You gone?

What if your first kiss was with a guy that literally lit up before your very eyes? Well that’s what Beth’s was.

Talk about a hot kiss.

And what about that ending though….

Who else is suspicious about Dawson’s so called “death” like I am? I mean obviously it never said he died nor did they show Daemon or Dee his body, or Beth’s for that matter. So that’s going to be a mystery I see coming in the next books.

What do you guys think really happened to them? It seems pretty sketchy to me and I don’t think they’re really dead but I guess we’ll just have to keep reading to find out.

Okay NON-SPOILER people, you may return. 🙂

If you’re looking for a book with mystery, hot aliens, and a whole lot of romance, this is the book for you!

If you haven’t yet read a book by Jennifer L. Armentrout, what are you waiting for?  I’ve read a bunch of her books and have to say that she is by far my favorite author! Go out. Now.
