Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth's fate hinges on one girl. . . . Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She's a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world's future.

I did my very first buddy read with my awesome chica, Blessie @Michevious Reads. She’s totally awesome and she should have her review up. Go and check her out. SHE’S SO ADDICTIVELY FRIENDLY. I NO KID.

You know when you’re starving and your stomach is growling do bad you feel you could consume a giant walrus and eat the little baby for desert? They have a saying for tis and it’s called: “You have eyes that are bigger than your stomach.”

Where am I going with all this? Be patient sweet bumblebees. I shall tell you.

I had a weak moment. This moment was so brief but I am still paying for it. My fingers were bigger than my wallet. The very last dollars I owned to my name, instead of saving it for world peace or something equally as awesome as that, you know what I did? I SPLURGED. ON BOOKS. It is a sickeningly non-guilty feeling that I have because, pfft, *shrugs* I could have spent my last bucks on let’s say, a video game, or some jewelry, or some new clothes, or some Fatsumo sushi down the street.

And now, I’m getting food happy….

Cyborgs are treated like skum. I’m sure even the filthy, slimy piece of gum on the bottom of a show that has been dragged through camel manure STILL would be more acceptable in their society than a cyborg. The society is all like: HOW DARE YOU EXIST. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!?

Like Cinderella, there’s this evil stepmother who won’t allow Cinder (The awesome-sauce cyborg/stepdaughter to go to this dance) Like what?? HOW YOU TELL ME I CAN’T GO TO BALL? HOW ABOUT YOU NO GO TO BALL?

So apart from Cinder having to deal with her evil sisters and stepmom, she has to battle with her feelings for the prince, who/what she is (THERE BE TWISTS HERE), and trying to deal with the evil-liscious queen, she has a lot to deal with, yo.

I would like to take a small moment to say: OMG THAT ENDING THOUGH. THAT. FLIPPING. ENDING. THOUGH.

jjh                                                                  THERE BE A SHOCKER. –>Be warned.

CinderShe’s a freaking mechanic. A MECHANIC. Like seriously, how cool is that?? That deff breaks the whole stereotype of your average female like: ‘oh-I-don’t-want-to-get-my-hands- dirty. Or: ‘Oops. I-seem-to-have-broken-my-pinky-nail.’ NO. This girl is hard core and she knows it. DO YO THANG GIRL. SHOW EM WHAT YOU’RE WORKING WITH. *Snaps fingers*

Iko: Oh dear Iko, I ADORE you. You’re so sweet and you remind of a cute and small minion even though I know you’re so much more than that. She was Cinder’s faithful friend. Someone give her a nice slab of le vanilla cake. –》or I would not be opposed of you slid it over to me. *holds up hands and shrugs* either way, all is good in the hood.

Prince Kai’s: I really wish we could have gotten more of him so I could have done the swooning on him more, not that I wasn’t gfited with some glorious moments in which, in fact, did do the swooning. He’s a brave prince. Has a lot to go through. Nuff said.

Lunar Queen: YOU’RE A BAD PERSON. YOU’RE REALLY MEAN! AND… AND… You kind of terrify me…

  1

UntitledGI FRIGGIN’ ADORED CINDER. This Cyborg has caved a special way into the cold, dark recess of my inner cavern if my heart. I LOVE HER. Deffs is one of my new fictional BFFS.

UntitledGDAT MYSTERY THOUGH! Apart from loving in ALL CHARACTERS, I wracked my brain trying to figure out what the heck was going in with the ‘antidote’ and who the HECK messed with the cyborg from the kingdom.

2

UntitledFAs much as I ADORED this book, I really wish there could have been romance. More lip locking. More groping. Gosh. Keionda NEEDS, she CRAVES the love.

  1. Love this one too. I listened to this on audio and lived it so much that I went ahead and bought the paperback for my shelf, along with the next two. Though, I have yet to read the others. Great review!

  2. aentee @ read at midnight

I loveeee the format of your review post! It’s so fun and eyecatching 😀 I also really liked Cinder but wish there was more romantic moments hehe. I did really love how unique Cinder was as a character, and I also loved the Sailor Moon influences in the book!

    Aentee at The Social Potato!

  3. Welcome to the dark side of YA ? I read Scarlet and Cress back to back a couple of weeks ago and can I just say: you are in for a treat! And if you won’t love Thorne I’ll eat my hat!
Glad you enjoyed. Cinder is definitely my favourite character in the series but it’s cool we get to meet more people in the following books. Kai is majorly swoon worthy. Oh yes *evil grin*

    • Kai. I WANT HIM NOW. He was def swoon worthy girl! You got that right! I hope we get to see a lot more of Cinder in the next books! And I thought I saw that you read the series a while back so I’m glad you enjoyed them!♡

  4. Red Iza

He he, I’m glad you loved it so much because not only do I own Cinder, but I’m going to read next month (if I don’t spend my last Euro buying other books – you see, you’re not the only one) ! So, read I will 😉

  5. Ro

Hey There Kind Keionda! You give a totally awesome and entertaining review as always, but this is one of those books i would love to see as a movie because there’s so much cool stuff and excitement going on. When doing sci-fi, I get caught up in all the action, so I would be okay with minimal romance. Sounds like a really good series to get into! Hugs…Ro

    • I WOULD SO LOVE for this book and entire series to be made into movie. There are just so many cool aspects to it like you said. 🙂 but Rooooo I NEEDS my romance and that was something that was a disappointment to me BUT, nether less I’m still going to finish the rest of the series.♡

  6. LOL I do this quite often as well! 😛
I really liked this read as well. It was just fun and different. I so need to pick up the other books in the series and read them!

    Have a great weekend!!

  7. Sophia Rose

I had a strong excited reaction to it, too. I managed to get to book two and now I really need to keep going with book three. Love the series!

    • I still have yet to start on the second book girl. I’m so anxious to read the rest of the series but kind of want to wait until ‘Winter’ the next book comes out? So many decisions.

  8. I haven’t read this one yet, but I have books 1 and 2 on my shelves somewhere (every time I know what book I want to read, and I know I own it, it’s like a treasure hunt lol). I’ve heard so many good things about it, I’m worried my expectations are too high D:

    Loved your review!

  9. Hey, now! Not all of her step sisters were horrible! 😉 Wasn’t there a sister of hers that she cared for a lot? I forgot her name, but it was definitely not the older sister. Nevertheless, I love this series so much like you can’t imagine! I can’t wait to see how you’d fare with the other books in the series 😀 ESPECIALLY CRESS! You WILL love Captain Thorne bwahahhaa

    Faye at The Social Potato

    • I knowwwww not ALL of them were bad girl (I think one of the step sisters was called Iko? Right?) MY memory is not serving me very well right now but I’m pretty sure that’s what it was. teehee. I’m interested to see who this Captain Thorne is because everyone seems to be swooning over him. 🙂

  10. AAAH YES GIRL YOU READ THIS!
I love this book so much <3 I love this series <3 Please, please read more so we can all fangirl together.
I know what you mean about wanting more romance though. Sadly, the romance between Cinder and Kai takes a very long time to come along because of so many things but I think that makes it a lot more intense. But there are more romances in the future of this series.

I just loved how creative this one was. I mean, whose brain could make up a world of cyborgs and Lunars and a plague and pull it off so well? With a retelling element and awesome characters on top? Marissa Meyer can 😉

Cinder is a lovely character <333

    • CINDER IS SO AMAZING AND KAI IS JUST GAHHH *Drools* I really want a Kai. And Olivia I SO agree with you on this in that Cinder was AWESOME! And that it takes a special person with a lot of talent to be able to make a world about cyborgs and things like that. Meyer can DEF write up some good stories and a swoony romance for sure! <3

  11. Lol this is probably my favorite review I have read for this book. I just started Cinder (like literally only the first chapter) and I am not sure what I think about it so far, but I am going to keep going because I know so many people love it. Also, I know the the problem of splurging on books. It happens to me WAY TOO often.

  12. Even though normally I avoid fairytale retellings, I just have to read this one. This series sounds so good and I think i will like Cinder, she sounds like a great character! The Lunar Queen sounds very mean, there’s a novella about her, right? Oh and I am really curious about that ending now. I’ll have to get my hands on this book soon. Great review!

    • I can’t believe you haven’t had the glorious chance to try this one out girl! It’s sooooo good! Let me know when you start reading it or I’ll just have to keep bugging you. hehe

  13. I totally did a “YOU” on that ending, too!! I had no clue it would be a cliffy! NO CLUE!! Ugh… I loved Scarlet a wee bit better but I haven’t read the next two after that. I better get on it before Winter comes… literally (ha, I’m so funny with the puns… not!)

Fantastic review!!! This is one of my favorite series of all time!

  14. Oh I love this series so much, and loved reading your in depth review! (Great breakdown of the elements btw!) I totally agree that this could have used more romance, cause I really liked Cinder and Kai together. The series just gets better and better though, so I forgive Marissa Meyer. 😀

  15. YAS GIRL!!! I HAD SO MUCH FUN, WE SHOULD DO IT AGAIN!!! And I agree with everything you posted here, especially the romance part. I really wished there was a little more development between Cinder and Prince Kai. Thanks so much for the shoutout, girlieeee! Muwaaaahh!

    • I SOOOO LOVED READING THIS OEN WITH YOU! And can’t wait for Scarlet because I know it’s going to be a BLASSTT! This time I hope we have more time to actually read and talk and stuff. <3 I really was biting my nails anxiously awaiting the moment in which they would finally lock lips but… sadly none of that came about. *sighs*

  16. I REALLY LOVE YOUR REVIEWING STYLE! It’s super fun and unique!
I love this book! I loved the unique take on Cinderella, the characters, the mystery and the action. And you should read Scarlet! That book was – if possible – even more amazing than Cinder!

I LURVE Comments! Let Me Know What YOU Have To Say!
