When Jade is given a scholarship to an elite private college in Connecticut, she sees it as a chance to finally escape her painful past and get a fresh start. She's determined to succeed and that means keeping her focus on school and not guys. But that plan falls apart her first day on campus when Garret, a wealthy prep school boy with swimmer abs and a perfect smile, offers to help her move in. Jade tries to push him away but she can't deny her attraction to him and Garret won't let her. Things quickly heat up between them, but then come to a sudden halt when reality hits and Jade realizes that a relationship with Garret may never be possible. He comes from a world of wealth where there are rules, including rules about who he can date. And not following those rules has consequences. As the two of them try to overcome the obstacles working to keep them apart, Jade is confronted with another challenge. On her 19th birthday, she receives a letter that her now deceased mother wrote years ago. In it are revelations that explain her traumatic childhood but also make her question the past she's been running from.
Just WOWT… I Loveeeeddd this book. Like on a scale of five to ten hearts, I would give it a whopping one-hundred! ♥
I know it’s wrong to judge a book by its cover but let’s face it, we ALL do it or have done it at one point or another. I’ll admit it, when I saw the cover of the main characters Jade and Garrett (in the cover above) kissing in the rain, it completely had me! And boy I was not disappointed, not for one second!
This book teaches the lesson of love and trust. Sometimes you just have to let go of your past to move onto the future.
“Over the years, I’ve learned that people really don’t like the truth. The truth is ugly and painful. It’s uncomfortable. It makes you question things. It creates uncertainty. People don’t want that. They want o hear a version of the truth that meets the expectations they’ve already conjured up in their own head.”
Right off the bat we are introduced to the main character, Jade. She is very closed off to the world around her and with good reason. Her life has been hard. She had a no account for a mom that treated her horrible in all ways that a mother can be horrible to a child.
She is trying to run away from her traumatic past but with all this baggage she carries around on her shoulders, she finds it hard to open up to and trust people, especially Garrett, the love interest, who immediately wants to get to know her and what she’s about.
Garrett… What do I say about him. He is everything I look for in a guy in real life. To mention a few characteristics to describe him…
♥ Doesn’t take people’s crap.
♥ Swoon worthy son of a gun.
Jade comes from a family that doesn’t have a lot of money yet she won a scholarship to attend this expensive college clear across the other side of the states where she then meets Garrett. So the fact that she doesn’t have money played into the fact that she doesn’t want to get close to Garrett. She obviously she doesn’t think she is ‘qualified’ enough to be with him.
Garrett too has his own struggles. He comes from a powerful, rich family that tries to rip them apart. His dad doesn’t want him to hang with Jade because she doesn’t “come from money. So this also is a factor in the many problems Jade and Garrett have to face.
Our characters meet when Jade is bringing her trash bags full of clothes up to her new dorm when BAM! She meets the handsome, Garrett. When they met and I learned that he had a lot of money I was expecting him to be all like:
Oh look at me, I have a lot of money and I’m going to flaunt it around for the world to see because everyone just knows my stuff don’t stink.
BUT I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Garrett was the complete opposite. I love how he wasn’t your typical arrogant, snobby dude with a lot of money.
“The Organization” is a secret, you guessed it, organization, that only the top elite, rich people are a part of it. Apparently they are so powerful they can rig politics and make people disappear. I’m interested in learning more about them and what they’re about. They seem very suspicious to me. Hmmm.
To put the cherry on top of the already unbalanced cake, Jade receives a mysterious letter from the past that turns her life upside down. This of course causes a rift between Garrett and Jade.
Will Jade and Garrett ever get together without Jade’s past coming in between them? And more importantly, will Garrett learn to stand up to his dad so he can be with Jade?
Who else just swooned all the times these two characters were together?
His eyes lock on mine and my heart pounds even faster. “I like that you give me shit. Because nobody gives me shit. Ever.” He pauses. “I like that you ignore me, making me work my ass off to chase you down. I like that you don’t care what people think, including me.” He moves his face to the side of mine and his lips brush my ear, his warm breath sending a chill through me. He speaks so low it’s almost a whisper. “I like that you’re incredibly hot and don’t know it. And that you’re completely turning me on in a way I didn’t think was possible.”
The times when Jade wouldn’t let Garrett in, I was just like:
Girl open up your heart and just trust the man…. But oh no, she didn’t listen to me.
WARNING: BELOW ARE SPOILERS. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK:
There were so many times while reading this that Jade got on my living nerves when she would stop her life due to her past. I was just like…
As soon as she and Garrett started to know each other, a red flag went up in my head. I was like:
What if… No.. But what if Garrett’s family was the one that actually gave her the scholarship?
And BOOM! BA-DAYUM!
I was shocked for a couple of seconds and just stared at the page but then my heart started racing because I was wondering how Jade was going to react.
And what do you guys think about that shady character Blake? I can tell he is going to start a lot of drama between Jade and Garrett.
He just needs to go somewhere, stop wearing so much cologne all the time, and get a freaking business of his own!
On a brighter note, I loved their tradition of having pancakes every Sunday for breakfast. Super cute!
I’m sure I’m not the only one that swooned when Jade went up to his room and found a concession stand complete with all the snacks, drinks, and MOVIES. Dang, I wish someone would do something like that for me. Hehe
There’s a sign taped on the wall above the desk that reads Concession Stand and next to the words he’s drawn those cartoon popcorn and soda people you see at the movies. On the table he has five full size bags of potato chips, some bags of popcorn, a bag of pretzels, a tall glass with red licorice sticking out of it. I spot a note next to the licorice that reads, Sodas are in the fridge. Enjoy your movies! – G.
Okay, all you NON-SPOILER people, it’s safe to come back
Afterwards, they have to try to deal with the problems with him being rich and her, not so rich along with hating broads, and Garret’s sneaky rich friends trying to break them up.
All in all this book had me on the edge on my seat.
It’s full of romance, jealousy, and drama, drama, and more drama! So, with that being said, if you’re looking for a book full of love, jealousy, hot make out sessions, and good ‘ol heart sweeping romance, this IS the book for you!
